U21s Lose To Atletico
The game was of no importance for either team. Juventus had secured the first place, Atletico had taken the second, while Lokomotiv wouldn’t have risen higher than the third line. So both coaches handed playing time to those who lacked it. Lokomotiv featured two freshmen, Kasyanenko and Alexander Mukhin.
The first half couldn’t boast high pace and resembled a training camp friendly.
Atletico could have opened the score in the 10th minute when Solido tried to finish off a cross from the right flank. Three minutes later he intended to send the ball into the upper ninety from the left corner of the box but again saw it sailing over the crossbar.
In the middle of the first half Atletico had two good opportunities in just three minutes. Kasyanenko saved a spectacular attempt by Soto from the near corner, then Soriano had a go twice but both times defenders blocked his strikes.
Iosifov was the most noticeable player at Lokomotiv. Late into the first half the hosts narrowly escaped an own goal after the ball bounced towards the back of the net after Nikita’s cross but the goalkeeper managed to react.
Lokomotiv started the second half being one man down. After the half-time whistle Baraboshkin quarrelled with Medrano and saw a second yellow card. The Railroaders were able to keep their goal intact until the 73rd minute when Petukhov badly timed a sliding tackle in the box, knocked down Quintano who was confidently converted from the spot.
Eight minutes later Lokomotiv conceded a second goal. Camello’s ideal cross to the centre of the box found the head of Tenas who jumped high to head the ball into the upper ninety. It was Soto who finalized the result through a header after a cross from the right.
Lokomotiv lost to Atletico and finished on the fourth line in the table.
