Defeat Against Run Of Play
Lokomotiv’s youth team have played against Spartak in a friendly that was part of their pre-season training camp.
The games between Lokomotiv and Spartak always involve the thrilling and resolute fight. The training sessions at Bakovka paid off, the youth team were in great form. The guys set a high tempo right with the starting whistle and pressed their opponent at their third. Spartak were relying on counter-attacks, and two of them proved effective. Despite the fact that the Railwaymen looked more promising and spectacular, created chances and were even awarded a penalty, by half-time the scoreline was at 0:2 not in their favour.
In the second half Lokomotiv continued pressing the Red-Whites. Samokhvalov, Galadzhan and Anisimov all had good chances to score but were unlucky. The ball kept bouncing off the woodwork or sailing inches wide.
In the middle of the second half the Loko coaches decided to see what their newcomers from the Lokomotiv academy are made of. The youngsters tackled the opponents well and tried to show their skills but still failed to score. The Railwaymen lost 0:2.
Lokomotiv defender Innokentiy Samokhvalov has shared his impressions from the game:
‘We had been preparing for this game in a measured manner, but actually we’ve been working really hard. The games against Spartak are always emotional, so we have been looking forward to this game. I think the score is not fair, a draw would have been good. But we were unlucky at times while our opponents used their chances. That’s okay, we still have some work to do and I hope we’ll be quits in the championship’.
Youth team’s head coach Denis Klyuev is happy with the game:
‘Despite the loss I have a very positive impression from the game. Finishing was not our forte today, while the passing mistakes allowed Spartak to score. Having said that, I see the guys tried really hard, and created many chances, used combination play. We have some youngsters who we’re viewing now, and we let them play, and they were good: they pressed, and showed their best skills’.
