U-21s Lost to CSKA

Sunday derby between the main teams was preceded by a youth derby. And they are always full of exuberant and determined play - not less than the Russian Premier League’s clashes. Lokomotiv and CSKA got down to business right away. Artyom Galadzhan was particularly conspicuous. Last season Artyom bagged a hat trick in the meeting with the Armymen. In this one he gave us an early opener: winning a challenge, Galadzhan burst through one-on-one with the keeper and capitalized on it.    

CSKA’s response came in four minutes. Chalov went to the ground in the penalty area, and Pukhov converted the penalty. Lokomotiv had chances to regain the lead before the break: Galadzhan tried luck a few times, but CSKA shot-stopper Ovchinnikov played brilliantly.    

The second half unfolded differently, much owing to the quick goal netted by the Armymen on 49 minutes. Now CSKA could just drop off and defend the score. Lokomotiv’s best opportunity to slot home midway through the second half came to naught: at the end of an attacking spell, Tugarev shattered the woodwork.
