Eder Scores Hat-Trick, Miranchuk Is Back. Lokomotiv Beats Chaika
In the last scheduled friendly during this winter break Lokomotiv entertained Chaika. The FNL freshmen are now placed in the middle of the table, demonstrate solid play and claim to get promotion in a couple of years.
Lokomotiv’s top XI and the formation were familiar: Magkeyev checked defensive midfield, Hoewedes covered the flank, with both Miranchuks sidelined: Anton was off the registry, Aleksey remained on the bench. Despite both teams were expected to be in approximately the same form, Lokomotiv looked much fresher. Its higher class was also obvious.
On 17 minutes Zhemaletdinov moved to the centre from the flank and gave it a try from the edge of the penalty area. The misplaced ball posed no danger but Eder picked it up, passed the keeper and opened the score.
Having scored a goal, Lokomotiv continued controlling the ball and attacking positionally. Eleven minutes later Hoewedes made a pass behind the defenders’ backs where it was picked by Eder who broke one-on-one and beat the keeper again.
In the middle of the first half Eder created two chances for his teammates. First he set up for his countryman Joao Mario who sent the ball off the target from as far as 17 metres. Later, the striker covered the ball with his body at the edge of the penalty area and rolled it to Barinov who was in a promising position but sent it above the crossbar.
The third goal came not long before the break. Zhemaletdinov again centered the ball from his side. The goalkeeper failed to hold it, allowing Eder to claim the ball and heel it home.
In half-time Eder was substituted for Aleksey Miranchuk, Kochenkov came on for Guilherme, and Chaika scored in its very first offensive. Leontyev was allowed enough time to work the ball in the box, turn around and score.
The next danger came in after 20 minutes. In the middle of the second half Krychowiak entered the area and had a go at the far corner but the keeper stopped it. Chaika responded with a counter where Korotayev sent the ball low but Kochenkov blocked it with his leg.
In the last minutes Chaika charged for the second goal but Lokomotiv defended confidently and didn’t allow the opposition to create a single chance.
The Railroaders will train in Spain until February 26th. On February 29th the Russian championship restarts with Zenit vs Lokomotiv.
