Yuriy Syomin: The win gave us confidence

Lokomotiv head coach Yuriy Syomin sums up the encounter with CSKA during the Russian Premier League’s Gameweek 11. 


- The game has left me feeling positive. We defeated the reigning champions and secured three points after a long winless streak. This time we knitted the play together, balancing attack with defence. The victory gives us confidence. In the period before this clash, Lokomotiv came under a lot of criticism. Now we deserve praise. 

- What do you think about Maicon’s display?

 

- Maicon needs to be consistent. He is blessed with flair and pace, but he was often injured. Marques has always been doing a great job at Lokomotiv. These three points following the bad run are extremely valuable.

 

- For 60 minutes Kasaev was busy dealing with the attacking threat from Fernandes. We had to sub on someone fresh. I instructed Marques to look for space and penetrate it. Besides, Maicon and Fernandes are both from Brazil, and Brazilians always compete on principle, as you know.

- What do you make of Miranchuk’s performance?

- I would like to see him score more from one-on-ones with keepers. He has to take the initiative, to threaten more and get more goal shots. Miranchuk is a versatile offensive player. He put in a good performance against CSKA.

- On one occasion, Corluka, Pejcinovic and Denisov got very emotional arguing about something.

 

- It’s quite natural. It only shows that guys care about the score-line. I hate to enter the locker-room and find the team waiting for the dressing-down the coach will give them.
