We Land First Win!

Lokomotiv defeated Krasnodar FC in Gameweek 5 of the ROSGOSSTRAKH Russian Championship and bagged their season’s first victory.

With his return to coaching, Yuriy Syomin’s first match stirred tremendous excitement. A big travelling army of Lokomotiv fans journeyed to Krasnodar to witness the new manager’s debut. The away crowd got into it from the very start: they chanted “Syomin! Syomin!”, hollering down home supporters.

Yet, the two squads were slow to provide entertainment. Throughout most of the half Krasnodar and Lokomotiv meticulously tried to pry open opposing defences, but the keepers were rarely called into action.

The first real sight of goal came only on the 40-minute mark when Miranchuk took the ball to the penalty area, then squared it for Samedov on the right. Alexander cut inside and shot – and hit a defender.

Lokomotiv’s next attack resulted in the opener. The duo of Miranchuk and Samedov did everything exactly as described above, with the only difference that this time Alexander fired right away and promptly followed up when Kritsyuk parried his initial strike.

Unlike the opening half, which was plain boring, the second one saw pure football from both teams. Already on 48 minutes the referee gave a penalty against Lokomotiv. Smolov took the kick and finished. In a little while Henty leveled, scoring his first goal for the Railwaymen - also from the spot. The penalty itself was earned by Kolomeytsev ten seconds after he came off the bench to replace Maicon.

The rest was an end-to-end affair with penetrative play on both sides and numerous counters. Samedov had a chance to score a brace when he ran clean through with only Kritsyuk to beat. Henty tried luck from the corner of the box. And Miranchuk sprayed sublime passes. At the other end Krasnodar shattered the crossbar in the 94th minute.

Lokomotiv secure first win in the current campaign. Syomin stages a victorious comeback.
