Bad Finishing Fails Team

On Tuesday, July 7, Lokomotiv’s youth team played in a third friendly during the pre-season training camp against FC Volga from Tver.

A week-and-a-half of intensive training sessions during the camp in Bakovka have brought fruit: the youth team have improved their strength, ball control, and teamwork.

Play was very dynamic from the very first minutes. The ball passed ‘from foot to foot’ just as quickly as attacks swung. The visitors, however, played more carefully - probably because of their older age.

In the first half Lokomotiv players managed to make several good raids to the opponents’ goal but failed to convert them to goals. In the back, the defenders made mistakes that allowed Volga to take the lead.

The pouring rain made things more difficult for the teams - the players had to spend more energy to tackle opponents, and every other duel ended in a fall.

In the second half the sun came out but this helped little. Lysov, Galanin and Galadzhan had good chances to level the score and take their team forward but Volga parked bus and managed to double the lead - 0:2.

Lokomotiv forward Mikhail Lysov shares his impressions from the game:

‘We played well, especially in the first half. And again our problem lies in finishing - we wasted a hell of opportunities. We’re working on it, I think this loss will stimulate us to pay even more attention to the finishing exercises. The training camp is very effective, it has become easier to play and practice than four or five days ago. Our form is great and we’ll work on finishing. We’re ready for the start of the championship!’

Defender Ratibor Gusar notes the team played well:

‘A defeat is always annoying. But on the other hand we managed to demonstrate consistent play, combinations, and fast transition from defence to attack. The only thing we failed in was finishing. But defeats in friendlies don’t upset us. We take them as a good training sessions. It’s important to demonstrate coherent play and to put into practice what we have been working on’.
