Lokomotiv's Youth Team Open Season In Saransk
The Lokomotiv juniors have opened the new season playing a match in Saransk. In the past season each team won their home head-to-head. The Railroaders beat the opponents 4:1, the winning score for Mordovia was 1:0.
The game start surprised Lokomotiv with a ‘cold shower’ goal the hosts scored just 30 seconds after the kick-off. Trying to intercept a cross from a wing, Ratibor Gusar accidentally sliced the ball into his own net. Given the early goal, the hopes for spirited play ahead were high. But Mordovia closed the ranks almost immediately and stayed on their side for the first 45 minutes, seldom venturing in counter-attacks as far as Lokomotiv’s penalty area, while the Railroaders were struggling to break through the adversary’s defenses.
The second half was pretty much the same, except for a few more chances Lokomotiv had - the best one coming in the 58th minute. The penalty kick by Makhatadze put the crossbar of the goals to a real test. There were some long-range shots. A couple of times the Railroaders tried to make long forward passes from their third, but the final score remained unchanged.
