Bilic jumps aboard Lokomotiv
Lokomotiv Moscow have announced that Slaven Bilic will become their new boss after he leaves his role with Croatia at the end of Euro 2012, having beaten off competition from the Premier League.

Lokomotiv have decided not to renew the contract of Portuguese coach Jose Couceiro after slipping to seventh in the Russian standings, outside the European places.

They have moved quickly to secure the services of Bilic, who recently confirmed that he would be standing down from his job with Croatia later in the summer.

Bilic has previously made no secret of his love for English football, having spent time with West Ham and Everton during his playing career.

It was thought that his next job could be in the Premier League and Lokomotiv say there was interest, but they are delighted to be taking such a highly-regarded manager to Moscow.

"I'm very glad that we have managed to sign a contract with such a strong and renowned coach," Lokomotiv president Olga Smorodskaya told the club's official website.

"Bilic is one of the best coaches in Europe, and in fighting for him we had to hold off serious competition from many clubs, including from the English Premier League.

"I don't doubt that Bilic will take our team to a new level and find success with Lokomotiv."

Bilic has also spoken of his excitement about the challenge that lies ahead, whilst also revealing details of the backroom team he will be taking with him to Russia.

"I'm very happy, because I will take over at a big, great club," said Bilic, who has signed a three-year contract.

"I will live in a magnificent city and I will compete in a very strong league.

"But now I will think only about Euro 2012, which is a beautiful competition where we want to achieve great success.

"I'm also happy that I will work with my fellow compatriots - Aljosa Asanovic, Nikola Jurcevic, Mladen Pralija and Miljenko Rak - who are also coming with me to Lokomotiv."
