Idowu: Atcletico’s Class Is Higher
Lokomotiv fullback Brian Idowu comments on the defeat from Atletico (0:2) in the Champions League.
- It was a hard game. We earned a penalty in the first minute but Kochenkov saved. Got a positive stimulus but then again handed the opponent another penalty. Someone wanted to clear but the ball hit a hand. When you concede a goal like this, it feels bad. We wanted to play confidently because we haven’t kept our goal intact for a while. We saw Atletico were emotionally charged.
The crowd was pushing the Spanish side forward. It was clear they needed that victory. Their class is clearly higher, they were checking all zones and our players. I don’t even remember us creating chances. They cut short all of our attempts. A very unpleasant feeling now. We have won only one out of ten last games. We hope for the break now. Our experience has to help us understand what we should pursuit. We need to take a little rest and then properly prepare during training camps to play with more vigour next year, to play the football we had been playing until recently.
They guys are worn out physically, it has been clear in the second halves of the last games. We were good in the first halves, got tired by the second half, conceded early goals and lost the run of play. It feels very bad psychologically to lose this part of the match. There is pressure but we know how to handle it. Although we haven’t succeeded so far. We need to use the break wisely to avoid the repetition next year.
