Lokomotiv arrived to the frosty Saransk without Smolov and Ignatyev who played in the previous game against Krasnodar, and Rifat Zhemaletdinov who had accumulated too many yellow cards. “Ignatyev is absent due to an injury. We hope he will play in the next game. Smolov has a minor injury. “ – said Yuriy Syomin. Tambov had also suffered losses: the team’s top scorer Georgiy Melkadze who had notched five goals in eight games, was serving a penalty.
Despite -10 Celsius in Saransk, both teams started carefully and slowly, controlling the ball far from the box and not trying luck.
Lokomotiv created the first chance through Krychowiak, Alexey Miranchuk, and Barinov. The Pole crossed into the box, Miranchuk passed to the free Barinov who had a go but hit a defender.
This became a wake-up call for the teams. By the middle of the first half Lokomotiv created two more opportunities - defenders blocked the attempts by Krychowiak and Miranchuk. However, by the 35th minute the Railroaders were in the lead with two against none. The opener was scored by Krychowiak who blasted from under a defender, keeper Shelia let the ball slip under his hands. Five minutes later the Pole received Miranchuk's cross and had a go, confusing Oyewole who sent the ball into his own net.
After the second goal Lokomotiv relaxed and were immediately punished. Oyewole joined an offensive with a quality cross to Obukhov in the box who headed it home.
The Red-Greens started the second half with a substitution - Kverkvelia took the place of Corluka. However, we soon conceded. Murilo made a bad pass allowing Obukhov intercept, break away and pass to Kostyukov who found himself all alone in the box and scored.
After that goal Tambov besieged our area and effectively locked us there for several minutes. Nevertheless, the Railroaders withstood the pressure, pulled the epicentre away from their goal and soon scored. Miranchuk crossed from the corner flag, Gritsaenko tried to clear but instead produced a lovely pass to Krychowiak who pierced Shelia with a powerful kick from the corner of the box.
It took Tambov seven minutes to equalize. A cross to the area found four attackers in front of Guilherme , and Oyewole pushed the ball into the net, but the referee cancelled the goal due to an offside.
This made the hosts even angrier and they rushed forward hoping to score. Kilin carried the ball along the edge of the area and kicked it into the far corner - Guilherme had to labour to stop it. Then, a high ball brought panic into our area but Kolomeytsev cleared the danger. In the next attack Guilherme saved a powerful blast by Osipenko.
Lokomotiv secured three points in a hard game and managed to hold the second place.
