We Are The Champions!
Lokomotiv youth squad defeated Mordovia during Gameweek 30 of the Russian Championship.
Lokomotiv junior team approached the Russian Championship final fixture as the tournament's top side, whose victory over Mordovia would immediately win us the title, no matter how the runners-up own games played out.
The Railwaymen took to the pitch in high spirits and during the first half produced nearly a dozen of opportunities. A few times Rubtsov tried to convert some chipped balls, and hit the bar once after Rakhmonov’s through pass. The latter simply shined throughout the opening 45 minutes. Anisimov came close, too, shooting from the rim of the box. But it was Miranchuk, sent down from the main squad for match practice, who eventually slotted home. Teed up by Rakhmonov, Aleksey nutmegged the Mordovia keeper.
The only misfortune that befell us in the first half was the forced substitution of Galanin who suffered an injury mere nine minutes after start.
In the second half Lokomotiv were more careful about their chances and inside 20 minutes changed the score again. First it was Tugarev who picked up a deflection off a defender to put Loko further up. A little later Miranchuk bagged a brace following a corner kick, and made it 3:0!
In the remaining time Mordovia earned a penalty with Chubukin tucking it away, no nonsense. But that was all. The Railwaymen secured the victory and the first place.
Lokomotiv are the championss again! Five years on, our team win the Russian Youth League again!
