Youth Derby Draw
Lokomotiv and Spartak youth teams drew tie in Gameweek 26 of the Russian Premier League.
The juniors were going to face Spartak without several of their regular starters. Artyom Galadzhan was unavailable due to injury. Ivan Galanin and Georgiy Makhatadze went with the national youth squad to compete in the Slovakia Cup-2016.
With key players missing, it certainly had its impact on the game. Although the first half witnessed a good pacey football, not so much was created at both ends in terms of scoring chances. On 33 minutes Spartak converted a penalty kick. Towards the end of the half, Lokomotiv answered with a shot from range fired by Rubtsov.
During the break the team made two swaps. Barinov and Sharov were substituted, on came Dorofeev and Chikanchi respectively. After the recess the game livened up. Lysov netted the ball 50 minutes into the second half, but he was offside. Spartak responded with a one-on-one and wasted it.
Closer the final whistle, Lokomotiv stepped up the pressure. On 77 minutes, the Red-Whites were saved by the bar and their goalie. But in the next attack the score was evened – thanks to Rasskazov who diverted a cross into his own net.
In added time, the players on both sides got quite emotional, and we saw some jostling in the middle third. Poluboyarinov earned a red card. The result remained unaffected. Lokomotiv gain 49 points and are now sharing the top spot with CSKA and Dynamo.
