Hard-Fought Win
Lokomotiv won the match against Amkar FC during Gameweek 25 of the ROSGOSSTRAKH Russian Premier League.
Amkar had a tough Gameweek. On Wednesday they played 120 minutes and a penalty shootout with Zenit in the Russian Cup semifinal. On Sunday the team were scheduled to host the glory-chasing Lokomotiv.
Since Denisov had been suspended, the left wing slot was filled by Logashov. Skuletic came on to lead attack – and opened the score for Loko 19 minutes into the game. Amkar defence failed to stop the Serbian international from running clean on goal, and Petar easily won the duel with Selikhov.
Amkar had a chance to fire in an equalizer around the middle of the half when Prudnikov picked up a cross from the left, but Guilherme blocked the effort. The rest of the first half saw a lot of tussling and foul play interrupting the game now and then. Before the squads left the pitch for the dressing rooms, the referee had to flash some yellow cards as emotions were running really high.
In the beginning of the second half, Lokomotiv could have doubled the lead. Logashov put Samedov though on goal, afterwards Alexander himself passed into space for Skuletic. Both times, however, the hosts were first on the ball. In the minutes remaining to the final whistle the footballers showed a lot of zeal, played rough and made the ref draw more yellow cards, but did not succeed to net the second goal.
Dogged victory for Lokomotiv, who continue the title race.
