U-21s Claim Top Spot
Lokomotiv youth team beat Amkar in Gameweek 25 of the Russian Championship.
CSKA, who had been topping the table ahead of Gameweek 25, completed their fixtures before Lokomotiv who still had a game in hand. The Army Men fell prey to Dynamo Moscow 0:4. That said, the Railwaymen got a good possibility to secure the leading spot.
This time around, Lokomotiv starting line-up saw Roman Shishkin gaining form after the injury period. And he had the first opportunity to score the opener. Taking a free kick, Roman struck a swerving ball yet failed to get it past the wall. From the beginning, the sides were rather careful testing each other but by the middle of the half got into action for real.
The Railroaders converted one of the first chances, courtesy of Lysov who nonchalantly won a one-on-one duel against the keeper. Amkar were quick to cancel out though Kurzenyov, who tucked the ball inside the far post off a corner kick. Three minutes on, however, Galadzhan put Loko one up again.
As the game went into the second half, the Railwaymen continued in the same vein. On 64 minutes Anisimov drove a low shot into the bottom corner. Ten minutes later Lysov netted his second homer. Having scored two goals, Lokomotiv eased off and held on for the victory conceding few chances for the rival.
With five weeks of the Season left to go, our youth squad are sitting at top of the table.
